Tweezing is a perfect way to maintain brows and any unruly hairs.

How does tweezing work?

People used metal forceps manually to pull hairs out from the root, one or a few at a time.

Targeted areas: eyebrows or stray hairs on face.

How long will it last?

It depends on you and your hair growth. For some, it’s a tweeze can last a day but others can go for much longer.

  • Not suitable for nose hairs. Should trim nose hairs to avoid potentially side effects.
  • Painful.
  • Not easy for large areas.
  • May cause pitting or scarring.
  • May cause ingrown hairs.
  • Some areas are difficult to do yourself.
  • Be careful when shaping brows: one or two hairs can make a big difference in brow shape.

Tips for Tweezers

  • Clean Tweezers after each use.
  • Disinfect tips of tweezers in alcohol.
  • Protect the tips of tweezers with cap and keep in storage box or tube.
  • Never drop tweezers. Dropping will dull the tip and throw your tweezers out of alignment.
  • Gently separating the tweezer's two halves, you can tighten the spring. The spring cannot be decreased once it has been increased.
  • Make sure you have good lighting so you don’t miss anything.

Five Steps to Accurate Tweezing

  1. Brush hair in the direction that it grows.
  2. Isolate the hair you are about to tweeze.
  3. Tweeze in the direction of hair growth.
  4. Pull one hair at a time.
  5. Pull gently and smoothly, making sure not to tug.

Shaping Your Brows

You should follow the natural line of your brow none when shaping your eyebrows. The outside corner of the pupil should have the highest arch. Place a pencil straight up from the side of the nostril to mark the starting point of the brow. Hold the pencil diagonally against the outer corner of the eye, pointing up to the brow bone, to determine where it should end. The brow should extend just past the eye, after which it should taper down slightly.

How can you prep beforehand?

Tweezing works best when pores are open to free the hair from the follicle's grasp, whereas bleaching relies on keeping pores closed. Once you're done, apply a cold flannel to the skin to help reduce redness. Seal the pores can prevent infection. It's important to consider the type of hair you want to get rid of. For coarse hair that is longer in length, the expert advises using a slant tip.

Dos and Don’ts

  • Do tweeze in the direction that it grows.
  • Do open your pores with a hot washcloth to make tweezing simpler.
  • Do outline the shape of your desired brows with a concealer, and then pluck any hairs that protrude below the line.
  • Don’t use creams or moisturizers that could slip the tweezer.
  • Don’t tweeze nose hairs or hairs that grow out of moles.
